The Australian Financial Review Infrastructure Conference 2009 -- 1-2 April 2009

The Australian Financial Review has announced Federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese as its keynote speaker at the 2009 conference on infrastructure.

The minister will outline government plans to ease urban congestion and smooth the flow of freight in a major speech at the conference, to be held on April 1 and 2 next year in Sydney at the Hilton Hotel.

Other speakers include HSBC chief economist John Edwards, Phil Garling of AMP Capital Investors, Brendan Lyon of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia, John Fitzgerald of the Victorian Treasury Department, CEO of the Australian Rail and Track Corporation David Marchant, and Transurban Group chief executive Chris Lynch.

Under the theme, ‘Building and Investing in the Future’, the conference will focus on State and Federal Government priority infrastructure projects, the impact of infrastructure projects on  business, the effectiveness in speeding the flow of freight to businesses and export customers, easing commuter congestion and opening private infrastructure to competitors.

The Australian Financial Review Education general manager Sue Kelly said: “2009 is crunch year for Australian infrastructure. Australian business is waiting to hear Government plans and understand how it can capitalise on opportunities ranging from finance to engineering and construction and how long it must wait for key transport bottlenecks to be solved.

“The Australian Financial Review is in a unique position to bring together government with key players in the business sector as well as key industries such as minerals and energy for this important discussion,” she said.
