Master mariner to chair Sydney Ports, Brogden joins the board
Master mariner Bryan Smith has been appointed the new chairman of the Sydney Ports Corporation, with John Brogden and Talal Yassine appointed to its board of directors.
NSW ports minister Paul McLeay congratulated Mr Smith on his appointment and said it comes at an exciting time for Sydney Ports Corporation.
Mr McLeay also announced the appointment of two new directors to the board of Sydney Ports Corporation, John Brogden and Talal Yassine.
“This year is shaping up to be a significant year for Sydney Ports, late last year we announced the successful tenderer for a third operator at Port Botany.” Mr McLeay said.
“The forecast growth of container trade shows Sydney Ports is going to continue to get busier and busier.
“Over the coming months we will continue to implement the Port Botany Landslide Improvement Strategy (PBLIS), continue the development of an intermodal logistics centre at Enfield, and start the process of relocating cruise activity from Barangaroo to a new facility at White Bay in 2012.
“Mr Smith has extensive professional experience in Ports Management, having worked with two of the major stevedoring companies operating at Port Botany including his previous experience as general manager - Patrick Stevedoring Company and regional director, East Asia for P&O Ports, and then as vice president and managing director, South East Asia for DP World.
“He has also served as a director for Sydney Ports Corporation since March 2009.
“He understands the business and the intricacies of the Corporation and is well placed to guide the organisation into the future,” Mr McLeay said.
