Hyundai to enter truck market

Serious about emerging as a truly global player in all areas of the diverse automotive industry, Hyundai Heavy Commercial Vehicles, a separate division of the Hyundai Motor Company, has announced it will be introducing Hyundai trucks to the Australian market next year.

Initially the company will sell the HD45, HD65 and HD75 variants with respective gross vehicle mass ratings of 4.5, 6.5 and 7.5 tonnes and powered by a 3.9 litre four cylinder diesel producing 110 kW at 2500 rpm and 579 Nm at 1400 rpm. Further down the track, medium and heavy duty versions are expected to be added to the mix.

The unveiling took place at Hyundai Motor Company’s new Australian headquarters at Macquarie Park in Sydney where the company’s vice chairman, Harry Choi, gave a short speech.

“The new HD series truck is an economical light duty truck model minimising the cost of ownership owing to its durability and fuel efficiency,” Choi said. “In addition, Australian operators will be impressed with its driver comfort and space efficiency.”

Key standard features will include driver’s suspension seat with lumbar support, remote keyless entry and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution. A super-cab offering 300 mm of interior space behind the seats will be optional.

The Hyundai Heavy Commercial Vehicle brand started producing trucks in South Korea in 1995.  Since then, the brand has seen steady growth across 90 countries, offering light, medium and heavy duty trucks as well as a range of buses and coaches.
