After allocating $20 billion to its Building Australia Fund for infrastructure projects last year, the Federal Government has decided to build a smaller Australia, making just 12.5 billion available.
Some of the announced projects include completion of Sydney's West Metro ($8bn), widening of the M5 motorway ($3bn) and quadruplication of the North Strathfield to Hornsby railway line ($1.8bn).
The ABC reports the government has declared that any further spending from the fund will depend on budgetary circumstances.
Greens Senator Scott Ludlam, questioning Communications Minister Stephen Conroy during the hearing, called on the government to clarify what has happened to the rest of the money.
Senator Conroy said the lesser figure is due to revisions in budget surpluses.
